One of the small but often-requested changes introduced in iOS 10 is that you can, finally, hide stock apps. The wording is important, because Apple’s own wording is somewhat misleading. When you ‘delete’ a stock app, iOS asks you if you want to ‘remove’ the app. And Apple’s own support page for the feature also uses the same word. The reality, though, is somewhat different, as Apple SVP Craig Federighi confirmed on John Gruber’s podcast....

Update: Apple says the issue is now fixed and users should be able to access iCloud again. iCloud seems to be down today for some users this evening, at least that’s what people are reporting on Twitter and Apple Support Community. Apple has confirmed the outage as well, but there is no timetable for a fix. According to users, iCloud is experiencing an outage when synchronizing data, or even not working at all....

The privacy-focused Brave Browser is the latest iOS web browser to add support for iOS 14’s new default app setting. An update to Brave this week added support for the feature, allowing users to set Brave as their default iPhone or iPad web browser instead of Safari. Support for changing the default browser and email applications is one of the many changes in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. At WWDC earlier this month, Apple offered more details on its plan to bring iPad apps to the Mac using Project Catalyst in macOS Catalina. WWDC 2018 marked Apple’s first attempt at porting its own iPad apps to macOS, bringing News, Home, Stocks, and Voice Memos to the Mac. Those apps, however, are set to receive major improvements once macOS Catalina launches this fall. As we noted this morning, the latest court battle between Apple and Qualcomm kicked off today in San Diego. Everything started with Qualcomm arguing that while it doesn’t make a smartphone itself, it’s still an instrumental part of the smartphone industry.
