Queen Elizabeth II said on Wednesday that she has agreed to a “period of transition” for her grandson. Both Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are not out of the woods yet as they still need to finalize a deal with the Royal Family.
The Royal Family is currently going through a transitional chapter, but have long played a significant role in the UK, holding up centuries of customs and pride, while also bringing in tourists from around the world. That said, Meghan Markle has felt the brunt of criticism aimed at the Royals recently. Now, with the couple stepping back from the limelight, a new era is approaching within the Royal Family.
According to CNN, Queen Elizabeth II agreed to a “period of transition” while the Royal Family irons out the more finite details of Harry and Meghan’s independent roles. The emergency meeting took place on Monday, January 13, at the Queen’s Sandringham estate. The Queen also agreed to let the Duke and Duchess of Sussex split their time between the UK and Canada. Even though the Queen agreed to a transition period, she and the couple would still need to resolve the intricate matters that are still outstanding. The monarch was also reported to have said to have ordered the final plans be drawn up within the next couple of days. The Queen stated that the whole family had a productive discussion regarding her grandson and the future of his own family.
In a statement released by the Queen after the meeting had concluded she said she would have preferred Prince Harry and Duchess Markle to remain full time working members of the royal family. The statement concluded by saying that the palace understands that the couple would like to live a more independent life. The emergency meeting was called right after the couple announced that they would be stepping back from the public eye and reducing their senior roles within the royal family. Along with the Queen, the meeting included Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry; Meghan phoned in from Canada.
While the Queen seems to be in support of the young couple’s decision, many outsiders are still processing the big changes happening to the monarchy. The royal family still has much to discuss and no final agreement has been reached as of yet, especially regarding Prince Harry’s desire to be monetarily independent. The Royal Family has been rocked to their core as they have also had to defend themselves against a false news story that reported the rift occurred due to Prince William’s bullying behavior. Hopefully, within the coming days, a settlement will be reached that makes both Prince Harry and his family happy.
