Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness has adopted two kittens not long after his cat, Bug, fell from a window to its death while the star was sleeping. He recently shared some videos of him cuddling with his new furry friends.
Earlier this month, Van Ness - who stars on Queer Eye, Netflix’s reboot of Bravo’s Queer Eye for the Straight Guy - was devastated when his cat, Bug, tragically passed away after falling out of a window. In an emotional Instagram post, the reality star said he wouldn’t be his usual upbeat self for a while as he grieved the sudden loss of Bug. Fans met Van Ness as the heel-wearing, mustache-having, ice skate-loving hairstylist on Queer Eye, on which he’s one of The Fab 5, along with Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Karamo Brown, and Bobby Berk. Usually a ray of sunshine, Van Ness took a few days to mourn Bug before getting back to his normal life. Now, the star is trying to move on with the adoption of two new adorable kittens.
In two new videos on Instagram, Van Ness is seen cuddling his recently adopted kittens, Genevieve and Matilda, while wearing a “Kitten Lady” sweatshirt. The reality star captioned the clips, “Larry, Liza, Genevieve & Matilda.” Larry and Liza are Van Ness’ two other cats, who make regular appearances on his Instagram. Van Ness adopted the new kittens from the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Fishtown Center. While they can obviously never replace Bug, a representative for the SPCA told People, they will help him heal after the loss of his pet. Check out the Instagram post below:
Following Bug’s death, Van Ness said he’d been struggling to make this sudden loss “mean something,” and asked his followers to donate to an animal shelter in the meantime. He also expressed his sympathy for anyone else going through “grief and loss.” In an attempt to take his mind off the pain, Van Ness did what he loves most: hit the ice. The Queer Eye star was seen ice skating and doing gymnastics with his co-star France the week of Bug’s death. But he might be spending a lot more time at home now that he’s got these new cuties.
Hopefully, now that Van Ness has two more additions to his family, he will be able to move on after the sudden loss of Bug. And maybe Genevieve and Matilda can join the cast of Queer Eye, and The Fab 5 can become The Fab 7 - just an (ingenious) idea.
