The A Quiet Place Part II Super Bowl 2020 trailer is officially released online. Back in 2018, the original Quiet Place became a surprise breakout hit, riding waves of critical acclaim to $340.9 million at the worldwide box office. That kind of success ensured a followup would be made, and now A Quiet Place 2 is just a couple of months away from hitting theaters. John Krasinski is back behind the camera, directing a talented cast that includes his wife Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, and Djimon Hounsou.
Paramount kicked the Quiet Place 2 marketing campaign off on New Year’s Day when they debuted a full trailer, which teased another thrilling and compelling installment in this burgeoning series. Many fans are already onboard with the sequel and are anticipating its impending premiere, but the studio is making sure to keep the hype levels high. The Super Bowl takes place this weekend, and Paramount is taking the opportunity to continue to raise awareness for their sequel. Now, the Quiet Place 2 TV spot is shared online.
Paramount released the 30-second advertisement online this morning. You can watch it in the space below:
The biggest takeaway from the Super Bowl spot is that in addition to directing, Krasinski is reprising his character Jim Abbott, who died at the end of the first film. Of course, it’s important to note Krasinski’s scene here is a flashback depicting more of the “Day 1” incident seen in the full trailer. What’ll be interesting to see is if A Quiet Place 2 employs a nonlinear narrative throughout its running time, or if the flashbacks are confined to a sequence or two. In the past, Krasinski’s talked about how he planned to have A Quiet Place 2 differ from typical sequels, focusing more on the world and other characters going through the same experiences as the Abbotts. It’s clear he had an ambitious vision for the film, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the script weaved back and forth through the timeline, fleshing out aspects that were only hinted at in the original movie. That kind of approach could help elevate A Quiet Place 2 beyond a standard survival thriller.
A Quiet Place gave Paramount a much-needed hit a couple of years ago, and the studio is hoping the sequel brings similar fortunes. They had a pretty rough year in 2019, marred by flops such as Gemini Man and Terminator: Dark Fate, so A Quiet Place 2 is arriving at just the right time. If this followup is able to replicate the success of its predecessor, it will likely spur talks of a third movie. Krasinski’s gone on record to say A Quiet Place 3 isn’t in the works just yet, but he’d be open to making another one if he came up with the right idea. He claims Paramount is on the same page as him, so it’ll be fascinating to see what the future holds for A Quiet Place after this.
