The Bachelorette lead Rachel Lindsay has married fiancé Bryan Abasolo in a destination wedding. The couple made sure their wedding day was about them - and that there were no red roses involved.
Lindsay was the lead of Season 13 of The Bachelorette in 2017 after being a contestant on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor. Abasolo was a front-runner early on, and though fans were disappointed, it did not come as a shock when Lindsay accepted Abasolo’s proposal over runner-up Peter Krause. The pair have been engaged for two years leading up to their nuptials and, despite the naysayers, the pair made it down the aisle in a ceremony that was exactly what they’d hoped for.
Abasolo and Lindsay tied the knot on August 24, 2019, in a destination wedding ceremony at the Royalton Suites Cancun in Cancun, Mexico, according to People. The couple - who currently lives in Miami - chose the location because it was a halfway point for Abasolo’s family who would be coming from Colombia, Lindsay’s friends and family from her home state of Texas, as well as the couple’s friends and family from Florida. Lindsay said the only downside to the day was that it went by too quickly, but that they were thrilled with how their day turned out. She said, “Our wedding was about us. It was about the life we built together outside of [The Bachelorette]. And we stayed true to who we are. No red roses!” Unlike Bachelor Nation newlywed couples Jared Haibon and Ashley Iaconetti or Chris Randone and Krystal Nielsen, Lindsay and Abasolo opted not to have anyone from the franchise officiate the wedding, instead choosing a pastor which serves to further focus the ceremony on themselves rather than The Bachelorette.
There were a number of Bachelor Nation alum in attendance at the nuptials, including Alexis Waters, Kristina Schulman, and Bibiana Julian, as well as Bachelor in Paradise season 5 couple Astrid Loch and Kevin Wendt, however, Abasolo and Lindsay also opted to not televise their wedding. Lindsay said she was initially interested in a TV wedding, but once they started to plan their wedding day, she realized that it wouldn’t be true to who they were as a couple. Lindsay said she also thought “it shows to the world or Bachelor Nation that what [they] have is more real.”
The couple, however, did still go with The Bachelor franchise jeweler Neil Lane to purchase their wedding bands. Lindsay actually ended up having the designer make her two wedding bands; one that’s a traditional white diamond eternity band, and a second with a yellow gold band with yellow diamonds. The two bands total two carats between them and Lindsay reportedly plans to rotate between the two, or even wear both at once depending on what she’s feeling.
Less than a week after their nuptials, the couple is already talking about having children. Abasolo is 39, Lindsay is 34, and they both have established careers, so they feel it would be reasonable to start trying for children within a year. Lindsay says she wants four and Abasolo wants three, so it seems that in no time they’ll be contributing to the Bachelor Nation baby population. Though fans weren’t always confident that Abasolo and Lindsay would ever make it down the aisle, the couple has received nothing but well-wishes following their ceremony.
