Core members of the Rainbow Six Siege development team, including the creators, are moving on from the popular shooter to spearhead a new project at Ubisoft. There’s no denying how important Rainbow Six Siege has been for the publisher, with the game continuing to grow year-over-year thanks to a post-launch roadmap. The game was even up for an award at 2019’s The Game Awards, which it ultimately lost out on, but the fact that it was mentioned as one of the best ongoing games of 2019 speaks volumes for the support it still recieves.
The success of Siege will eventually lead to a new take on the series, dubbed Rainbow Six Quarantine, arriving on PS4, Xbox One, and next-gen platforms at some point in 2020. That particular title’s release was pushed back to allow for development time on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but fans shouldn’t worry that the title is set to usurp the original game. In fact, Ubisoft has major plans to support Siege well into the next generation of gaming.
Of course, developement of Rainbow Six Siege moving forward will be handed off to a newly composed team, as the game’s creative director, Xavier Marquis, and brand director, Alexandre Remy, take a few hand-picked members of the current team with them to work on a new project. The announcement came by way of a new video from Ubisoft that details the decision and reassures fans that Siege is still a priority for the studio.
It’s an interesting time to be a fan of Siege, with the latest update only just arriving earlier this month and now news that core members of the development team repsonsible for building the game up will now be moving on. Although goals have been discussed in the past about Rainbow Six Siege recieving support until the game hits 100 Operators. It’s a lofty goal at the very least, but with next-gen support en route, it will be interesting to see just how serious Ubisoft is about those claims.
For now, however, it’s going to be fun to see what Marquis and Remy get up to next. Will they continue creating Rainbow Six titles or will they shift gears entirely to something brand-new? Only time will tell, but their track record with Siege is at least a promising sign of what may be yet to come from Ubisoft.
