Rambo V: Last Blood has officially gotten a September 2019 release date. The first Rambo movie titled First Blood was released in 1982, starring Sylvester Stallone as a Vietnam War veteran being hunted down by a corrupt sheriff and his deputies. Ever since then, John Rambo has become an action movie icon, appearing in a number of films over the years.
Stallone has starred in each Rambo sequel since 1982, but he has also acted as a writer for the original film and each of its sequels. Stallone even went as far as to star in, write, and direct the fourth Rambo film in 2009, which was simply called Rambo. Rumors of a fifth Rambo go back all the way to 2008, but Stallone confirmed Rambo 5 was moving forward and would be titled Rambo V: Last Blood back in 2014. The official plot synopsis for Rambo V: Last Blood is currently unknown, but new Rambo V images that were released this month tease another rescue mission storyline, as well as Rambo going up against a cartel. Now, it looks like Rambo V: Last Blood has officially gotten a release date.
According to The Wrap, Lionsgate has set a September 20, 2019 release date for Rambo V: Last Blood. So far, not a lot of movies have been given a September 2019 release date. Rambo V will see direct competition from the Downtown Abbey movie as well as Black and Blue on that date. Rambo V: Last Blood will also be facing competition from IT: Chapter Two and Spies in Disguise, both of which are being released earlier in the month.
While Stallone is obviously returning for the Rambo sequel, he will also have some fresh faces appearing on screen with him. Actress Paz Vega will co-star in Rambo V: Last Blood, appearing as a journalist who accompanies Rambo in his fight against a cartel who kidnapped her sister. In October 2018, it was also announced that Sergio Peris-Mencheta would be playing the villain of the film, although not a lot of details surrounding his character are known at this time.
While Rambo V: Last Blood may be facing some stiff competition in September, die-hard Rambo fans are still likely to come out to see the newest Rambo flick. After all, this is supposedly going to be Stallone’s last outing as Rambo, as we have seen Stallone start to retire some of his famous characters. Creed II marked Stallone’s last appearance as Rocky Balboa, and he now seems to be retiring another one of his famous characters this year. Needless to say, Stallone will no doubt be able to pull people back to the theaters for Rambo V: Last Blood in September simply on nostalgia alone.
